BAJO EL OLIVO Artist-in-Residence Program 2025 for Visual and Intermedia & Electronic Arts, Transdisciplinary Practitioners, Researchers & Writers.

BAJO EL OLIVO International Creative Arts Residency aims to be not only a venue for exchange and mutual stimulus among artists, but also for local citizens to experience the Spanish landscape and culture anew. This program supports creative activities of artists and art researchers who aim to explore new artistic expression in their encounter with local Andalucian culture. Participants engage in research-creation projects during the residency.

We host researchers, writers, emerging and mid-career artists who are interested in creating and observing nature in a rural location. We are particularly interested in enthusiastic artists who can stimulate the creativity of local Spanish artists and artisans or engaging with local citizens.

1. Eligibility

• Emerging artists, mid-career artists, sound artists and art researchers based in transdisciplinary practice, who have clear motivations to work and research in Alhaurín el Grande in the area of Malaga, Spain.

*Applications by writers and cross-media artists are also welcome every year.

• Applicants can pursue an exchange/dialogue with a local Spanish artist/s with the assistance of the program director during the residency and communicate in English or Spanish.

2. The residency is not supported and the guest resident must pay their stay in advance of their acceptance to the residency.

• Accommodations during the residency period. [Maximum 3 months]
• A studio for production and research at BAJO EL OLIVO.

3. Residency Period

Maximum three months during the period of Mid-May 2025, to 15 December 2025.

4. How to Apply:

First, please fill out all items on the application form (Google Forms) in English accessing from the link provided BELOW.

  • Applicants working in video or sound (for example) should upload a URL of (maximum three audio-visual works/projects) to their application form, and the documentation must be able to be seen online (downloaded URLs are not accepted).
  • Please do not directly attach the image and video files on the Google Form.
  • Researchers must attach thesis or written works.
  • Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

5. Note

• Artist fee and living expenses are not covered.
• Participants have to arrange the purchase and transport of materials required for production of work. Participants are responsible for any unexpected accidents or sickness. Buying travel insurance is strongly recommended.
